The Mysterious Marching Vegetables
Rosie and Riff go undercover with Mr. Slaptail to discover why spinach is disappearing from Mr. Slaptail's garden.
Synopsis: Riff and Rosie learn that leaves are disappearing from some of the plants in Mr. Slaptail's garden. What is happening to the leaves? Rosie, Riff, and Mr. Slaptail brainstorm to solve the mystery and come up with a plan to discover who or what is behind the missing vegetables. What do the three friends discover?
The Mysterious Marching Vegetables also features informative science boxes that highlight related topics to discuss, such as the relationship between food and good health, the science of soil and plants, different kinds of plants, and safe food handling and preparation. At the end of the book is an illustrated activity and a glossary of health and science terms for student and teacher use.
The book is an integrated component of the Food unit but may be used as a stand-alone reading activity or with the unit's reading/language arts and mathematics supplements: Food: The Reading Link, and Food: The Math Link.
This storybook may be used with students in other grade levels. They are most appropriate for use with students in grades 3–5.
