Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy
Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk (BCMBAR) is a unique health sciences magnet middle school in Houston’s historic East End, created in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine and the Houston Independent School District. BCMBAR’s rigorously designed curriculum, developed by Baylor’s Center for Educational Outreach, immerses students in neuroscience, scientific decision-making, and biotechnology—with eighth graders earning high school credit. Students interact with professionals from Baylor and the Texas Medical Center, gaining first-hand exposure to the world of medical science.
BCMBAR stands out for its small, close-knit community, allowing every student to thrive within a supportive network of faculty, staff, families, and neighbors. The school’s commitment to project-based learning, scientific inquiry, and bioengineering foundational skills sets a strong pathway for future success.
